The Challenge

Improving global business connections and delivering the Scottish Governments new Digital Standards for public services

Scottish Enterprise wanted to re-develop the website for their flagship Global Scot service which connects Scottish onshore businesses to the diaspora of Scottish International business leaders. The requirement was to modernise and extend the functionality of the existing website and to build in features that would make better connections and ensure that international business collaborations would reach a satisfactory conclusion for both parties. This was also one of the first projects to comply with the new Scottish Government Digital First standards in terms of project phasing (Discovery, Alpha, Beta), data security and accessibility to WCAG 2.1AA.

What we did

Advanced matching functionality and process automation for improved service experience

The Global Scot platform was delivered by adapting our existing Digital Engagement Framework to accommodate SE's functional requirements such as extended monitoring and intervention tools for admins, group and one-to-one chat, secure document sharing and collaboration spaces for multiple users types.

The system features advanced matching functionality that pairs businesses seeking assistance to the most relevant Global Scot based on relevance, expertise and skill sets which automated a previously arduous and time consuming process.

As well as designing a new logo our design team used a design system approach to support the rapid development of the platform based on pre-defined, designed for accessibility components.

Existing member user data was migrated into the new system from MS Dynamics with user generated content filtered into this public system using WebPurify and ClamAV in an ECS infrastructure.

Outcome

A secure community environment for global business collaboration at all levels

The outcome is an advanced multi stakeholder collaboration platform that supports business support requests, accurate member matching, secure document sharing and collaboration with Multi Factor Authentication and engagement monitoring and intervention tools for admins.

Members have personalised dashboards with a combination of private and published data and can access shared research, insights and expert opinions in a community feed.

A Global Member map plots Global Scots on a world map so that members can see where in the world Global Scots are.

The system has a secure social network feel with one-to-one & group chat in public and private collaboration spaces.

The system is subject to penetration testing with a third party CREST Certified data security audit.

In this project Ember was the first commercial organisation to deliver a digital project in compliance with the new Scottish Government Digital First standard.
