In Aberdeen the goal is to rebalance transport in Aberdeen from private car towards sustainable, active travel modes and ultimately make the City a more attractive place to live, work and visit.

GoAbz is part of Aberdeen City Councils involvement in the CIVITAS Portis Project which aims to improve social, functional and economic cohesion between Ports and City Centres in five major port cities in Europe.

What we did

We delivered this project in partnership with Mott MacDonald and Fuse Mobility which is our JV business in the MaaS space, beginning with Co-Design to identify user priority functionality and user journeys. We deployed an early web-app version of the system to help us better understand how the system might be used. We integrated the system with Traveline Scotland, Google and the Fuse Mobility Platform which meant that we could include planning and pricing information for all modes of local transport such as taxi, car club and local bus routes. We combined this with information such dwell times for connections and walking and cycling durations.

Integrating with Aberdeen City Council's UTMS and traffic management system meant that we could also include real time, super-local and super-insightful information about traffic congestion, public events that impact the transport network, roadworks and car park occupancy. We also made the App WCAG2.1 AA accessible for inclusive use by all citizens.

We created a behavioural model, that distributed contextual articles, challenges and motivational nudges based on the user’s cycling behaviour and browsing activity.  We created a behavioural model, that distributed contextual articles, challenges and motivational nudges based on the user’s cycling behaviour and browsing activity

The Outcome

The outcome is a Journey Panning App for the citizens of and visitors to Aberdeen that provides much more practical, insightful and detail rich information across all available modes than a simple Google route planning. City Transport planners also now have deeper insights into the journeys that people intend to make to aid the City's transition form car to sustainable transport.
